Essential guidance for your journey
Permits are $1,500 USD per person. One hour with the gorillas — no exceptions. But that hour will change you.
Bring waterproof hiking boots, gaiters and trekking poles. Trails are steep, muddy and slippery.
Water, snacks, rain jacket, gloves, and a small first-aid kit. Porters are available ($15 tip) to carry your pack.
Forest light is dim and dappled. Shoot at f/2.8–4.0, ISO 1600–3200, and bring a lens cloth for mist and rain.
The park sits at 2,400–3,000m. Arrive a day early, hydrate and avoid alcohol the night before your trek.
If you're sick (cold, flu, cough), you won't be allowed to trek. Gorillas share 98% of our DNA and are vulnerable to human illness.
The complete encounter, efficiently delivered in three days.
Comfortable, well-located accommodation near the park.
Slots smoothly onto an East African safari.
