Overview

The African wild dog — the painted wolf — is the continent's most endangered large carnivore, and the Okavango Delta of Botswana is arguably the best place on Earth to see it. Fewer than 7,000 remain in the wild, and the Delta's private concessions protect some of the healthiest, most-studied packs anywhere. This six-day safari is built around them: their dawn hunts, their den sites in the denning season, and the electric social life of the pack.

Wild dogs are cursorial hunters — they run their prey to exhaustion — so sightings are fast, dramatic and utterly absorbing. In the private concessions your guide can drive off-road to follow a hunt, something the national parks do not allow. Alongside the dogs you will see lion, leopard, elephant and the water-adapted wildlife of the world's largest inland delta, explored by 4x4 and by mokoro, the traditional dugout canoe.

Who It's For

Made for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and repeat safari-goers who want a focused, high-quality predator safari — and specifically the chance to spend real time with wild-dog packs in the best country for them.
