Overview

This is the great Namibian self-drive loop — the most beginner-friendly road trip in Africa — planned and supported end to end. Over eleven nights you drive empty, impeccably-signed roads from the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei to the Atlantic coast at Swakopmund, north into the desert wildlife of Damaraland, and finally across Etosha National Park, where the game gathers at floodlit waterholes and comes to you. You set your own pace on the open road; we secure every bed — including Etosha's coveted waterhole chalets — arrange the vehicle, and plan the fuel and the distances so no day ever bites.

You stay in Namibia Wildlife Resorts camps inside the parks — Sossus Dune Lodge at Sesriem for a dawn start on the dunes, and Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni across Etosha, each with its own floodlit waterhole where black rhino, elephant and lion come to drink after dark. Between them you overnight on the coast at Swakopmund and in the red-rock wilderness of Damaraland. It is a big-distance trip, but the driving itself is a pleasure — which is the whole point of Namibia — and we hold the entire logistical puzzle together for you.

Who It's For

Made for confident first-time self-drivers, couples, photographers and anyone who loves a great road trip. The driving is easy and safe, the sightings at Etosha's waterholes reliable, and the whole loop planned so you simply enjoy the open road.

Best Time to Travel

The dry season, May to October, is prime for Etosha — surface water vanishes so game concentrates at the waterholes you are driving to, and the sparse vegetation makes every sighting easy. Winter nights are cold but days are clear. The green season is dramatic for skies and birding but the game disperses.
