Pair the Kingdom's malaria-conscious reserves with the mighty Kruger for a complete Big Five journey
This is the best of two worlds: the intimate, walkable reserves of the Kingdom of Eswatini paired with the sheer scale and Big Five density of South Africa's Kruger. Over seven nights you cycle and walk among zebra and antelope at Mlilwane, track black rhino on foot at Mkhaya, meet lion, elephant and white rhino at Hlane, then cross into the Greater Kruger for classic open-vehicle game drives in one of Africa's greatest wildlife arenas. It is an active, varied, superb-value journey that suits families and adventurous couples alike.
The kingdom's reserves are malaria-free or low-risk and full of activities you cannot do in the big parks — cycling, horse riding and guided walks among plains game at Mlilwane, and on-foot rhino tracking at Mkhaya. You then cross to a private lodge in the Greater Kruger for guided drives with expert rangers seeking leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Short, scenic transfers link each leg, and Swazi cultural touches — craft markets, homestead visits and traditional food — give the journey a warmth the mega-parks cannot. All park fees, activities, guiding and transfers are included.
Active families and couples who want variety — cycling, walking and game drives — and the contrast between Eswatini's intimate kingdom reserves and Kruger's big-game spectacle, all on an easy overland circuit from Johannesburg.
Depart Johannesburg on a scenic drive into the Kingdom of Eswatini, arriving at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley. Settle into the rest camp, where warthog, nyala and impala wander freely between the huts. An afternoon guided walk or bike ride introduces you to a sanctuary with no big predators, where you can safely explore on foot among the plains game.

The dry winter months from May to October give the best game viewing across both Eswatini and the Greater Kruger, with thinning bush, cooler days and wildlife drawn to water. Summer (November to March) is hot, green and excellent for birding and newborns. The Kruger leg is a low-risk malaria area, so we send seasonal health guidance; the Eswatini reserves are malaria-free to low-risk year-round.
