Walk metres from black rhino in Africa's smallest, safest Big Five kingdom
The Kingdom of Eswatini packs a genuine Big Five safari into a malaria-free country smaller than Wales — and does it with a warmth and intimacy the big parks cannot match. Over four nights you stay inside two of Big Game Parks' finest reserves: Hlane Royal National Park, the largest protected area in the kingdom with lion, elephant and white rhino, and Mkhaya Game Reserve, one of the best places on earth to walk on foot within metres of black rhino. This is safari at its most personal, guided by Swazi rangers whose families have protected this wildlife for generations.
Because Eswatini is malaria-free and just three hours by road from Johannesburg or a short hop from Kruger, it is ideal for families, first-timers and anyone wanting big-game thrills without the malaria maps. Days blend open-vehicle game drives at Hlane with the reserve's famous waterhole hide, and guided walking safaris and 4x4 game drives at Mkhaya in search of black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, roan and sable. Rustic-luxury camps, home-cooked Swazi food and authentic cultural touches round out a safari that feels like a well-kept secret. All park fees, guiding and transfers are included.
Families with children, first-time safari-goers and value-minded travellers who want a real Big Five experience without malaria risk — happy with characterful, unfussy camps and drawn to the intimacy of walking safaris and a small, welcoming kingdom.
Met in Johannesburg or at the Kruger/Mpumalanga border and transferred into the Kingdom of Eswatini — an easy, scenic drive. Arrive at Ndlovu Camp inside Hlane Royal National Park in time for lunch, then head out on an afternoon game drive in search of white rhino, elephant and general game. After dinner, watch wildlife come to drink at the floodlit waterhole right in front of camp.

The dry winter months from May to September offer the best game viewing, as thinning bush and cooler days draw wildlife to waterholes — perfect for Hlane's hide and Mkhaya's walks. The green summer season (November to March) is hot and lush with newborn animals and excellent birding, and Eswatini's cultural festivals such as the Umhlanga Reed Dance (August/September) and Incwala (December/January) add a memorable dimension.
