Having grown up on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, South Africa, I came from a previously disadvantaged group in a society where there is little hope for a brighter future. Where only those who remain focused, persevere and believe in their dreams can survive. And for a person with a hearing disability like myself, it is very difficult for those in managerial positions to have the patience to understand. It was therefore imperative that I try to build up my own dream of leaving a legacy for my family. Tony Gaskins once said: “If you don't build your dream, someone else will hire you to help build theirs.” I believe that through realising my own dream and building Kabura Travel & Tours from the ground up, I was able, not only to uplift my own self and my family, but also those in my community. Through Kabura Travel & Tours, I have managed to create jobs for many people in my community and encourage them to uplift themselves as well.
